A large LTTE flag is reported to have been hoisted today by an unidentified pro LTTE group at Velvettithurai in Jaffna, the hometown of slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, police said.

The Valvettithurai police said the flag that had been hoisted at the Valvettithurai main junction was removed later and a group of suspects were taken into custody. They said investigations were being carried out to arrest those behind the incident.

LTTE heroes’ week used to be celebrated from November 21 to 27. (Wanni Romesh Madusanka)

Election stunts and stunts to keep the population distracted, First we find ARTILLERY GUNS buried in the beach now we have this FLAG. The North is largely a MILITARY GARRISON, how come there is enough time for people to plant a LARGE FLAG. It takes some time to complete this task.

This is like a German hoisting a Nazi era swastika flag. It should be banned by law to display a LTTE flag. Sri Lanka only has one national flag and its the Lion Flag.

This should be handled with care by the relevant authorities. Unwanted attention should not be given through media since whoever did this is definitely looking for some serious advertisement. Just remove the flag & then the man who raised it!
