The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) said today that the Domain Name Server (DNS) Changer virus could affect any internet user including those accessing the internet from Sri Lanka, although no complaints had been received in this regard as yet.
“The virus can affect any computer that has access to the World Wide Web and no differentiation can be made between those accessing from Sri Lanka or any other country” Roshan Palliyaguru, Principal Information Engineer of SLCERT said.
Palliyaguru went on to state that a complete blackout of certain servers by the FBI will take effect from today ( Monday).
The DNS Changer virus has the potential to ensure that computers affected with the virus would not be able to access the internet, Palliyaguru said. It is a Trojan that will change the infected system's Domain Name Server (DNS) settings, in order to divert traffic to unsolicited, and potentially illegal sites. ( Hafeel Farisz)
