The third term would begin on September 9 for State schools, where Advanced Level Examinations were held, Secretary to the Education Ministry Upali Marasinghe said today.

The time table of the GCE Advanced Level Examinations was altered due to the Parliamentary Elections to be held on August 17.

Other schools would begin their third term on August 31, he said.

Speaking on the remark of Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya, who said that schools would not be used as counting centres, Mr. Marasinghe said schools would be allowed to use as election centres if Elections Department gets a necessity.

He said the Education Ministry had no objection. (Piyumi Fonseka)
