With the acceptance of the resignation of Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Chris Nonis, the External Affairs Ministry has asked the country’s Deputy High Commissioner to the Maldives Chanaka H. Talpahewa to take over as chargé d'affaires in London, a minister said.

Dr. Nonis tendered his resignation after an unprovoked assault on him allegedly by Monitoring MP of the External Affairs Ministry Sajin Vaas Gunawardane at the New York residence of SriLankan Airlines director Dilan Ariyawansa.

The government accepted the resignation last Friday, and assigned Dr. Talpahewa as the chargé d’affaires of the High Commission in the UK. (Kelum Bandara)
