The parties, supporting common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena, are now looking for a symbol under which to contest the presidential election, political sources said yesterday.

Although they believe that he should contest under the ‘Ape Jathika Peramuna’ banner the opposition political parties are averse to the use of a ‘mobile phone’ as its symbol because it would not be something the masses could relate to.

A decision in this regard will be taken by tomorrow after consulting all the parties supporting the candidacy of Mr. Sirisena. (Kelum Bandara)

A common candidate has no meaning. It will not help the public. Every now and then there will be conflicts within groups. Common candidate will have to always resolve internal problems and not the people problem. After 100days the power will be with Ranil. He will create havoc in the country by dividing the country. A person like Karu must contest and then change his role to a Prime minister. Then people know they are voting for a person who can rule at least for 6 year period
