The sun would directly over Sri Lanka from today, till September 7, the Department of Meteorology said.

“Between August 28 and September 7, the sun is going to be directly above the latitudes of Sri Lanka,” the Meteorology Department said.

The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun would overhead at about 12: 12 noon today are Vaddukoddai, Puttur and Kudattanai, the Department said.

However, the department said that the possibility of rains was still low.

“A few showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and the Central Provinces and in the Galle and the Matara Districts particularly during the morning,” it said.

“Thundershowers will develop at a few places in the Uva and Eastern Provinces during the afternoon or evening. Showers will occur at a few places in the sea areas around the island. Winds will be Southwesterly and the speed will be 20-40 kmph.

“The coast extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankesanthurai and the sea extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil may be rough at times as winds can strengthen up to 50-60kmph,” the Meteorology Department said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
