Strong winds expected due to Cyclonic Storm

The Meteorology Department said today strong winds could be expected over the country specially in Northern areas after the severe Cyclonic Storm “Hudhud” in the Bay of Bengal had intensified into a Very Severe cyclonic storm.

The Met Department said it was located about 900 km to the North-east to the Jaffna and was moving towards India.

The Department said several spells of showers could be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Thundershowers could develop at several places in the Uva, Eastern and Northen provinces during the afternoon or evening, it said.
