Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that there was no increase in the crime rate according to statistics.

Speaking at an event held at the Government Information Department, Rajapaksa said that the Police would focus more on reported crimes in order to apprehend the culprits.

The Defence Secretary went on to reiterate that the Police had been given clear instructions to conduct their duties with no political interference. Pix. by Kithsiri de Mel

Police do not record most cases, specialy theft, saying, " If you cannot name any suspect, how can we do the investigation". This is the real situation in the ground. I guess not lesser crimes on books.

stats may also show there is no white van abduction or girls being raped in Sri Lanka though media and most people might not agree with it. when we look at the data, we need to analyze the source of the data in order to evaluate its validity.
