A special traffic plan will be implemented from Wednesday October 5, 2011 with effect from 1pm in the Cinnamon Gardens area, police media spokesman Maxi Proctor said.

The special traffic arrangements are being implemented as an alternative and also as a measure to control the heavy traffic which prevails in the morning and also in the evening in the area.

Vehicles heading towards the Independence Square roundabout bypassing Nanda Motors, can travel straight towards Independence Square under the new arrangements.

Vehicles heading towards the Independence Square roundabout from the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute along Independence Road cannot turn to the left.

SSP Proctor said that vehicles cannot turn left from the State Administrative junction after passing the finger print office on Longden Place. But vehicles can travel along Maitland Place.

Vehicles travelling along Vidya Mawatha can turn left towards Londgen Place or right towards Maitland Place. They also can turn left towards the Independent Square roundabout by coming to the Maitland Crescent Junction and turn right towards Horton Place.

Vehicles travelling along Gregory’s Road can only turn right towards Horton Place and cannot turn left towards the Independence Square roundabout.

The traffic plan was tested yesterday (Sunday) and today (Monday) from 8am till 12noon in the Cinnamon Gardens area. (Supun Dias)

Police does stupid stuff without analysing the traffic situation. I work close to Connamon Garden Police station and I can tell this is going to increase the traffic along Horton Place, Gregories Road and Vidya Mw.
    1) They should have made the small stretch in Maitlant Place both ways and allow vehicles to turn left from Gregories Road to Maitlant Place
    2) Ind. Av. never has heavy traffic so they could have made it both ways since the road is wide enough and has 2 lanes for either side and made the road around Ing. Sq. one way clock wise.
