Special traffic and security plans are to be implemented tomorrow in the roads connected to the Elections Secretariat in Rajagiriya and its vicinity in view of the final day to hand in nominations for the forthcoming Presidential Election, the Police Department said.
The Police Department said that 2,000 officers had been deployed to the Elections Secretariat and its vicinity as security measure, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.
Under the special traffic plan roads from Ayurveda Roundabout at Rajagiriya towards Welikada junction (Parliament Road and Kotta Road) will only have one lane each from 9 a.m to 2 p.m.
Heavy vehicles would not be allowed into the area. Only passenger busses and light vehicles could use the segment of the road, the Police Department said.
This segment of the road would be be completely restricted to the public from 12. 30 p.m to 1.30 p.m.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Motorists using the Low Level Road are advised not to turn from Kaduwela towards Malabe. Those using the Highlevel Road from Athurugiriya to Colombo are advised to travel to Kottawa and travel down Highlevel Road.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
