A special probe has been launched on the incident in Kumburupitiya, Trincomalee where a gang stormed into a polling center and stole ballot papers which led to the counting of ballots from the polling centre in the area being suspend and a re-poll being announced.
The police investigation launched into the incident will look at the failure by the officers on duty to report the incident as soon as it happened, the police said adding that it will also look at apprehending the suspects involved.
The results from the Trincomalee electorate in the Trincomalee district were suspended as a result of the incident and the Elections Department said today that the re-polling in the area will take place on 20 April. (Daily Mirror online)
