SL to boycott Nobel

Sri Lanka will not attend Friday's Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony for jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo. External Affairs Ministry sources stated that this was a move to support the Chinese boycott of the event. China and 18 other countries have decided not to be represented.

The 58 countries having embassies in Oslo were invited to attend. However Russia, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, Tunisia, Iraq, Iran, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Pakistan, Egypt, Morocco and the Philippines have decided to forgo representation in support of China.
