Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani today said that his country and Sri Lanka ‘would do everything possible to achieve regional stability while cementing regional Co-operation.’
The visiting Pakistan General made this comment while addressing an army passing out parade in Diyatalawa this morning.
Commending Sri Lanka’s post-war adaptation and revival, the four-star General said that his country he always supported Sri Lanka in its 30 – year long war and will continue to do so in the future, too as both military organizations liaise with each other very closely.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan, he added, being two peace-loving nations, would do everything possible to achieve regional stability while cementing regional Co-operation.
It is apt and the timing is just right to seek all available avenues in respect of security in the region and Sri Lanka in particular at a time protracted threats by India remains a possibility even though India’s fake overtures for peace and harmony, notwithstanding India’s clandestine dealings with the West to destabilise Sri Lanka’s stance with regard to its internal affairs; specifically India’s involvement with former LTTE / Tamil tiger terrorists and their remnants that live in the Diasporas such as Canada, UK, Norway, India and those other countries where LTTE has taken route. The only way to manage such situation for Sri Lanka is to strike a balance in its foreign policy in such a way to ward off threats that may come from India and elsewhere. It is quite obvious why Sri Lanka seeks security coverage from friendly nations such as China, Russia, Pakistan and the like. Sri Lanka needs to protect itself from whatever may come and cannot drop guard.
