A Sri Lankan housemaid in Qatar has been sentenced to a year’s imprisonment for stealing QR11, 000 from her host family.

The sponsor told the police that the maid stole her handbag containing the sum and other IDs. The incident happened on May 6 last year, after less than a month of the woman joining the host family in Qatar.

The lady sponsor also said that some QR8, 000 was found in the maid’s room. Some money was found hidden under the carpet.

The maid, 39, denied the charges saying that she found the purse in the garbage.

The Doha court of first instance ruled that the plaintiff’s version was credible and coherent. The maid should leave the country after serving the sentence

When these poor women are raped, beaten, murdered, etc, etc...nothing happens to Arab family that committed the crime. The poor woman nor her family gets anything from this so called "sharia law" based courts there.
When the servant commits even a petty crime, she gets the due punishment. Hypocrisy at it's best!

Time is high we need to stop sending maids to Arab Countries.. What Arabs does is that.. If the maid is not sole satisfying they will fabricate the charges and revenge - Rape beating are very common with most of them though few good behave people there. May be she stole it but its hard to believe.

God is so unfair, One year jail term for just stealing QR 11,000, on the other side people get away with stealing billions.

Why can't this be a framed charge against this poor Housemaid? This may be a punishment for not giving in to the sponsor's demand.

Who knows whether this is just an allegation against the maid !´Majority of maids are helpless as we have seen in the past years.
