UPFA MP Dullas Alahapperuma today apologised for using a lion’s flag without the two coloured strips -- reprsenting the minorities -- at the protest held outside the Bribery Commission yesterday.

Several organisations and political parties including the Pivithuru Hela Urumya participated at yesterday’s protest outside the commission over the Commission summoning former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

“This is serious matter. We apologise and regret for having used the flag without the two strips. We say sorry to any person or group that may have been hurt by the use of this flag,” Mr. Alahapperuma said.

You cannot break the law and walk away with a simple sorry. You have to endure the relevant punishment.

They all fall into a trap, for their negligence, set by a person who wants to tarnish their political image. The one who complained may be aware of the real culprits.

Insulting the National Flag. These are supposed to be SUPER PATRIOTS but still they DO NOT KNOW THE NATIONAL FLAG. Ridiculous explanations. Racists and it has been shown clearly now.

Too late too little Mr. Dullas. You and all who took part in that protest proved yourselves to be racists with your boss being the No. 1 racist who created all the religious disharmony in the recent past. Apology not accepted because we are hurt beyond all measure.

He is not fit to be in the parliament if he cannot differentiate the flag that he waved and the Sri Lankan flag. Or could it be he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs which is quite easily available these days.

    Roger Saturday, 25 April 2015 09:01 AM

I trust the authorities will take action against all who carried the flags. find the culprits who has been using this modified flag. The apology is of no use. this cannot be excused the law should be exercised against those especially who are trying to get away by giving lame excuses

It is treason to have insulted the national flag and Buddhistflags should not have been displayed in an unauthorised political protest parade, insulting the religion . Apologies should not be accepted and police should prosecute the wrong doers under existing laws and it comes under high treason.

    lkboy Friday, 24 April 2015 03:26 PM

This should not happen again, authorities should find where it was printed and look out for the stock and clear it. If not will come out again.

    Shan Friday, 24 April 2015 05:30 PM

Flag is the second Crime, First crime is taking the lead of a protest when banned by the Court. That is called CONTEMPT of the Court. Face both now.

In this incident has reflected your campaign ideology. That kind of ideological politics not suitable for multicultural society like Sri Lanka.

    MrRetort Friday, 24 April 2015 05:18 PM

    ruwan Friday, 24 April 2015 04:08 PM

Previous government should apologize for the entire nation for their mis-behaviours during last 10 years. Not only for this incident.

    anura Friday, 24 April 2015 04:07 PM

This flag is used by the group such as Rawanaa Balaya and Bodu Bala Sena. It is a known fact that Gothabaya Rajapaksha had his blessings for these groups when he was the Defence Secretary.

    Mevan Friday, 24 April 2015 04:06 PM

Was it a genuine oversight or was it intentional because according to some reports MR alleges that he lost because of minorities.

    Pisssa Friday, 24 April 2015 04:05 PM

"any person or group"??? its not the flag of a person or a group you violated. Its the flag of the country. So no, its not any person or a group. whole country is hurt by the use of this flag.
