Kudu Laalitha shot dead

Laalitha Kaushalya alias Kudu Laalitha was shot dead a short while ago when he attempted to escape from Police Narcotic Bureau personnel during a raid in Athurugiriya.

He was previously a resident of Maligawatte but at moved to Nawagamuwa. Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana alleged that Kudu Laalitha was engaged in drug smuggling.

He was shot dead near the Oruwala Hospital on the Athurugiriya- Kaduwela Road while attempting to get away from the Narcotic Officials who were following his vehicle.

He was admitted to the Nawagamuwa Hospital but died soon after admission. (Sanath Desmond and Lahiru Pothmulla)

You point to something very important. In more democratic countries with more disciplined police and more independent justice systems, they will try their best to capture people alive. This is not only because someone is considered innocent until proven guilty but also he/she may be able to reveal more information leading to the capture of others.

Wonder what happened to the phrase"innocent until proven guilty" what if he was not involved in drug pedalling? 2 days back 2 brothers who served 30 years in jail for rape n murder in usa were released... Coz of being imprisoned wrongfully... what right did the Excise dept officer have to shoot to kill someone who was not armed and wasn't a threat to the officers life? So much for human lives...
