Video: SF says Soosai did not commit suicide

Former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka today rejected media reports to the effect that LTTE sea tiger leader “Soosai” committed suicide and said that he was killed during the last day of the war along with LTTE Leader Prabhakaran by the Army.

“He was killed along with Prabhakaran and around 100 fighters during the last day of the war by the Army. We found the bullet ridden bodies of both Prabhakharan and Soosai. It was apparent that he fought till the last moment and was shot, we had evidence of that” he said.

Speaking at a press conference at his office Gen. Fonseka went on to say that the two LTTE leaders did not swallow cyanide and commit suicide.

“It’s a fabrication. Prabhakaran and Soosai never took cyanide, although they ordered their cadres to swallow it “he said.

The veteran soldier who led the Army in its annihilation of the LTTE however said that the wife of LTTE intelligence wing leader Pottu Amman had committed suicide.

“Her body was found after she had consumed Cyanide. There was another capsule on her neck as well” he said.

Answering questions raised during a hurriedly convened media briefing, Gen. Fonseka also said that the Army was not aware of the fate of Pottu Amman.
“We had no information about him but we believe that he was also killed while trying to flee from the lagoon. KP had made a statement to the effect that Amman was also killed after blowing up his suicide jacket” he said.

Gen. Fonseka during the briefing summoned to dispel myths regarding his stance on the Halal issue said that he had always been committed to protect all religions and its practices in the country.

“I have been very clear on this. From what we have seen this entire Halal issue doesn’t seem to be to protect Buddhism but rather has a different agenda. I’m also a good Buddhist but I’m of the view that every person has the right to practice his or her religion in total freedom” he said.

He asserted that the method by which the Bodu Bala Sena campaigned was stopped was questionable.

“If they could stop because the Secretary of Defence wanted them to, then there is an assertion that it was started also because he wanted them to. This entire issue has got nothing to do with protecting Buddhism but rather something which has different political motivations” he said.(Hafeel Farisz)
