Seven Bangladeshis who posed as Buddhist monks were arrested while attempting to illegally migrate to another country via Malaysia, Monitoring Intelligence and Investigation Unit’s Chief Officer Amith Perera said.

They are to be blacklisted and deported on August 23.

Initial investigations had revealed that they had come to Sri Lanka after having obtained temporary ordination in Bangladesh with the intention of migrating to another country.

They were arrested by officials of the Immigration and Emigration Department led by Visa and Ports Controller M. Nihal Ranasinghe on the instructions of Immigration and Emigration Controller General W.A. Chulananda Perera

People who come across such instances of fraud are requested to contact the Monitoring Intelligence and Investigation Unit via its hotline number 0115-329490. (Sanath Desmand)
