Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka’s, election Secretary for the last Presidential election Senaka de Silva was granted bail with conditions by the Court of Appeal today.

The Bench comprising Justices Sisira de Abrew and K.T. Chitrasiri also ordered that Captain Senaka de Silva’s passport be impounded and that he should report to the CID on the last Sunday of every month.

Captain de Silva had campaigned in support of defeated common opposition candidate and former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka for the presidency. A case is pending in the High Court.

Soon after the elections, 40 lawfully retired army personnel were arrested on January 27 over allegations of being army deserters.

Captain de Silva and retired General Fonseka were arrested on February 8 last year during a meeting in a house at Rajakeeya Mawatha.
