Schools closed for LG polls

All schools in the country will be closed on March 16 and 17 due to the local government election, officials said.  Besides, the schools to be used as counting centres will be closed from Monday till March 18.

Deputy Commissioner of Elections W. Sumanasiri told Daily Mirror today that teachers had been selected for election duty, and therefore this decision was taken to.

The Election Commissioner’s decision was communicated to the Education Ministry last week. (KB)
