“He (Sajith) has once held the post of deputy leader of the party, so his name would be given priority,” Mr. Wickremesinghe said addressing the UNP’s 68th anniversary in Passara this evening.
Mr. Wickremesinghe however said the party’s Working Committee would decide about the deputy leader's post when it meets.

If UNP want to succeed,
There must be one deputy leader and his name should be disclosed at the earliest; and all UNPers must accept him as the successor to Ranil.

Good move. Country needs two powerful democratic parties. People thought infighting would ruin the great party. Now they would breath a sigh of relief. Sajith should support Ranil at the next "Presidential Election". Ranil lost twice because of Praba.

The biggest mistake the UNP made is not being with the common man.
Because of this reason and dis unity among the party, lead to the down fall of the UNP.
Hopefully It comes back strongly in the Elections to show the world, there is a good opposition to protect Democracy in this country and to work for the progress of the Nation and for its peoples welfare

this will be the end of UNP

Kalu Sunday, 07 September 2014 06:24 PM
Whether Sajith is deputy or otherwise, UPFA shall thump you as they do in any election be it UVA, Presidential and national. You can even form an alliance with Fonseka, TNA, JVP, backed by your masters up west and of course the human rights brigade, LTTE diaspora buddies etc. Any doubts folks?? Remember the last time around the whopping 1.8 Million votes margin

Another tactic for Ranil's survival
Calistus Jayatilleke Sunday, 07 September 2014 12:32 PM

MALLAWATANTRI Sunday, 07 September 2014 07:17 AM
ANTON, SAJITH ONLY WANTS PROMINENCE. WHEN HE WAS ASKED TO TAKE THE LEADERSHIP IN THE RECENT PROVINCIAL COUNCIL ELECTION CAMPAIGNS, LIKE CONTESTING AS CHIEF MINISTER OF SOUTHERN PROVINCE, HE BACKED DOWN. HE THINKS HE IS PRESIDENTIAL QUALITY AND NOTHING BELOW !
Punchibanda Saturday, 06 September 2014 04:22 PM
Why there are not any others in the party who are capable ?
Hoda Lamaya Sunday, 07 September 2014 06:03 AM
Only prominence? No appointment?
Suq Madique Sunday, 07 September 2014 06:01 AM
The ideal partnership...RW's intelligence and Sajith's popularity with the masses
Jamalji Sunday, 07 September 2014 05:58 AM
Sajth is a regional leader. He is not match for MR. If UNP is taken over by hm, there won't be any improvement. He had not fared well in Hambatota. Barring Ramil, all are from B team. Basil, Gota and Namal are national leaders whose legs are in North and East. Has Sajith ever visited Kilinochchi?
Ammaa Sunday, 07 September 2014 05:25 AM
RW good if don't have coffee with MR, RW is good to country, bad to party??? JVP seems to be best
Mutu Sunday, 07 September 2014 03:30 AM
One, and probably the only excellent move by RW for a long time.
Sidath Sunday, 07 September 2014 03:00 AM
Ranils gonna win the next presidential election... if not the poeple of Sri Lanka are loosers for a long time to come !
ANTON Sunday, 07 September 2014 02:52 AM
NOT THE PROMINENCE, GIVE HIM THE LEADERSHIP IF UNP WANTS TO SUCCEED.
cool Sunday, 07 September 2014 02:08 AM
Hahaha in your dreams. RW WILL WIN NEXT ELECTION. Hora family will be in Maha ulugedara
de silva Sunday, 07 September 2014 01:35 AM
WHY THE DEPUTY LEADERSHIP.HE SHOULD BE GIVEN THE LEADERSHIP AND YOU CAN JOIN THE SANDHANAYA.
Lal Sunday, 07 September 2014 01:17 AM
At last!! It's a very good & timely action of Mr. Ranil. He has realized that without Sajith no future for UNP. Jayawewa!!!
Banda Saturday, 06 September 2014 05:47 PM
Ranil is definitely on his way out after loosing the presidential election next year. Sajith is about to grasp his chance at long last.
sri Saturday, 06 September 2014 05:19 PM
Good move Ranil, this time we expect only win from UNP.
Haffie Saturday, 06 September 2014 04:48 PM
A very good news from Ranil after several years, which will make positive changes in the UNP in a short time.
