UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya today said that the rural vote base was the lifeline of the UNP and it should be strengthened through better interaction with the rural voter.

He added that the party has planned to reach out to rural people through ‘Grama Charika’ programme which will commence during this weekend from Horana. (KB)

UNP cannot win the rural vote base unless they change their policy towards open economy. The current leader who do not know about the pulse of rural people must allow capable person to lead the party. If these are not met UNP will never win an election.

karu is a gentleman, without a taint of corruption he commands a great deal of respect amongst the population of the country i belive he is the only person capable of uniting the party now...but ranil being ranil and being absolutely selfish would not make way for anybody for the betterment of the party

    SONNA Friday, 29 October 2010 04:02 AM

U N P HAS THE VOTES , WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE. SAJITH IS PLAYING THE DOUBLE.

    Yehiya-Doha Thursday, 28 October 2010 12:30 PM

Dear Mr. Karu. We need first a leader like Late Gamini Dissanayake. Who can work with all groups.

    DUWI Thursday, 28 October 2010 11:45 AM

Really...??? The UNP has been acting as if its vote base was Colombo 7 Royal College based.

This is the difference between JR and Ranil. JR recognised where his voters were and did the Mahaweli, Mahapola, Gam Udawa Schemes.

live for unp,die for Thursday, 28 October 2010 11:30 AM

Biggest joke of the century.I dont mind if Ranil or sajith or Ravi tell this in the public. This karu is a government agent. He is there to break the party.Ranil supporting him becoz unp is lack of leaders.nothing else.Karu if u speak in public unp will lose more votes.so please keep your mouth shut if u luv this party.

haneef mohamed Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:50 AM

    willows Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:37 AM

Good at alst you have understood it, but you cannot talk to tthe Rural voter with your present leadership?

    banda Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:35 AM

As MR following the UNP economic and governing policies and had substituted his Govt. in some way to green cult in the globalised modanization, its hard for the Elephants to stand up and walk as they wish. Margin of strata diferences shortning whether rural or urban though metropolitan still more biased to UNP compelling MR to think of an Authority for Colombo. First solve leadership crisis and make a strong and convincing claim of the green own policies to win back the lost vote bank islandwide.

Chow Chow Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:19 AM

You do not have to say this. We all know that. The UNP vote back keeps eroding due its poor leadership. Time for a change in the party stating from the leadership.

    herath Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:01 AM

Cheating of the rural citizen. keep them forever poorer for votes so that you can eat at the parliament canteens and drive your old cars.. suckers..

    Niro Thursday, 28 October 2010 08:13 AM

They took so long to figure it out...no wonder they are weak...

    migara Thursday, 28 October 2010 08:12 AM

you may want to cultivate the middle class voter but not Ranil.. He thinks party is only for the colombo 07 and NGOs and solhiem

    Niro Thursday, 28 October 2010 08:08 AM

    its about time...

    Bandaraa. Thursday, 28 October 2010 08:02 AM

This is all bullshit.to save the Colombo 7 N.G.O.leadership of the U.N.P..See what Sajith had to say the other day.

Rid UNP of Tiger proxies- Sajith
    Monday, 25 October 2010 23:00

With out doing this U.N.P. will be no where.

    malkanthi Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:48 AM

The UNP vote base used to be colombo and upcountry. You cannot address rural people in western attire and attitude, this is an area rajapaksa family is scoring.

    Taj Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:45 AM

Are the rural voters in Norway???

    Ranjit Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:45 AM

Question is who can win the rural votes, Ranil or Sajith? Karu please without beating the bush say something practical.

    wasala Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:41 AM

    Nandimithra Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:38 AM

Mr Karu - you are shameless, You left the UNP with 18 others and now preaching. At least give a total apology to the Loyal UNPers who stuck it out instead of selling their souls for a mess of pottage.

    KD Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:38 AM

Took this long figure it out?

    Fayad Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:37 AM

Gam Aliya Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:33 AM

    mahendra Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:33 AM

Too late Karu. UNP has missed the bus. Rural people have crowned king Mahinda for eternity.
