Some of our countrymen/women fas forgotten this moment now, some are blaming "why closing roads? what is happening at galle face? why is those warships/jets rushing for a another war? like wise. we all must repect for those who sacrifice there life to save our mother nation at this occasion.

So you mean to say that closing the roads for a week and inconveniencing hundreds of thousands of people is the only way of showing respect to our war heroes? Has anyone asked them if they'd prefer to have the money spent on creating long-term improvements to their quality of life rather than a parade? Has anyone worked out by how much a war-widow's pension could be increased if we cancelled all public "shows" of respect and instead gave the money directly to the families of the heroes?

The road closures are a minor inconvenience. Let's not forget the last decade or so before the V-Day when it was worrisome to travel to any crowded place in Colombo. Congratulations to our brave soldiers and leaders that saved our motherland from terror! Let's celebrate the peace and harmony we currently enjoy!

Navin is spot on... we should all reduce the celebration and Govt parties and take care of our war hero's plus the civilians in the north & East...
