The UNP will urge the government to reduce the cash deposit required to be made by political parties’ and independent candidate for the contesting of local government elections under the proposed Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Bill, MP Lakshman Kiriella said today.

What? Are there that much poor politicians in this country who cant even pay a small deposit money. Anyway, nothing to worry, because once they win a seat, they can double or treble that amount within a couple of days! It is one of the best investments one can think of nowadays with the interest rates falling down drastically.

Increase it as we do not want to browse through a newspaper to vote.We do not want 100 independent candidates who get less than 100 votes.

At last some one got the correct idea to increase the deposit, otherwise there will be much more contestants that wants to put their name just for publicity. There want be much more independents groups if this comes to effect. Why does the UNP request to reduce the deposit? It's not their matter as it is a registered and popular party, and those really interested this amount is nothing compared to the benefits to be graced after winning the game.
