Hope this time no "set-off" vote from JHU
Monday, 19 April 2010 07:36 AM
Dr.Mervyn Silva is more appropriate.....
we can have really good entertainment by watching the parliament proceedings than movies etc...
Monday, 19 April 2010 07:37 AM
Ranil would be the ideal speaker in this parliament.
Monday, 19 April 2010 07:57 AM
I THINK RM MET PRESIDENT TO GET HIS SUPPORT TO KEEP HIS OPPOSISITION LEADER POST BECAUSE RW FEEL THE NEW MP'S ARE TRYING TO APPOINT SOMEONE ELES
Monday, 19 April 2010 08:11 AM
Probably they might have discussed who is going to be the Prime Minister. MR should appoint RW for that post. It may resolve many issues including economy.
Monday, 19 April 2010 08:20 AM
There is no need at all MR to consult Ranil on speaker issue , This discussion only to prevent SF become opposition leader ............ MR very much happy Ranil as a opposition leader.
Monday, 19 April 2010 08:24 AM
President should offer the PM to Mr.Wickremasinghe we need a United Sri Lanka to move forward and every body should support the President. We are all mother lanka's children.

Its going to be a toss-up between Mahinda Aluthgamage and Mervyn Silva.
Monday, 19 April 2010 09:26 AM
Whoever the speaker it is, this parliament will be dissolved in this year after changing the constitution. And the next election will be based on the First past post system. MR will plan to get more than five sixth majority. this is the game plan.
Trust RW is aware of this.
Monday, 19 April 2010 09:40 AM
Ole' to that!
Monday, 19 April 2010 09:57 AM
Why not Weerawansa - once he starts shouting, no one else can put in a word.
Monday, 19 April 2010 10:03 AM
Please give it to Muthuheetigama
Monday, 19 April 2010 07:26 AM
Does any one think of the Country and its betterment prior to the appointment of speaker?
Monday, 19 April 2010 10:20 AM
Was appointment of Opposition Leader also in the agenda? Isn't it wise to include with new constitution to appoint Ranil as the Permanent Opposition Leader of Sri Lanka.
Monday, 19 April 2010 10:20 AM
Why not Weerawansa, the talker ?
Monday, 19 April 2010 10:22 AM
Rosy will be the best.
Monday, 19 April 2010 10:41 AM
why is ranil at the beck and call of president. has he got anything to hide which the president knows. best thing is to make ranil the speaker so that the unp can reorganize without him,
Monday, 19 April 2010 11:29 AM
what rubbish. Do they have to meet to discuss the speaker. Must have discussed ways & means to prevent SF comng to parliament.
Monday, 19 April 2010 11:46 AM
Speaker will be Chamal to avoid an Impeachment motion. That means MR has no 2/3 as such.
Monday, 19 April 2010 12:59 PM
What is there to discuss and whom are you both trying to fool? Does it make any difference who becomes the Speaker? Whoever it is will side the Govt. and thats all there is to it.
Monday, 19 April 2010 02:06 PM
I think ,one topic is about leader of Opposition in next parliment,..
MR may be scared to have SF as a Opposition leader ,,,Cuz at any time , MR may be outset , with SF strategies ,,,,
Till Ranil is the leader of Opposition , MR should not be worried ,.
We can c a good stage drama soon ,,,
Monday, 19 April 2010 03:24 PM
If President decided to appoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister, that will be the ever best decision by MR. Sri Lanka will boom in a new culture. No divisions and there will be a united srilanka. It should be accepted by RW if offered. Sri lanka needs a person like RW to be the premier at a time like this, which should not be ignored, there is no other leader of RW calibre to be premier at the present context.
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:56 PM
Sssshhhhh!!! Don't tell Ranil that he is in a dream world - please don't wake him up.
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:15 AM
This is a real Joke while they have almost 2/3rd no point of discussing the matter with Ranil.
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:31 AM
Ranil why not someone from your own party who is waiting to crossover so that he can side with the govt without crossing over. The UNP will never win with Ranil and Tissa at the helm.
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:35 AM
Lets give it to Mervin Silva
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:41 AM
Way to go. Peaceful politics paving the way for a new political culture.
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:42 AM
Hope this time he won't release another person from UNP.
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:42 AM
Let them( HE MR & RW) show real and true statesmanship and work together for the good of the people of Sri Lanka.
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:43 AM
How about SF for the Speaker position ????
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:46 AM
hope you two can join together and form a new cabinet with the best from both sides included
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:50 AM
Let us hope that it is not the same old Clown who did Monkey Tricks.
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:57 AM
This is another political drama
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:03 AM
Ranil will find another scapegoat as W. J. M. Lokubandara again to sacrifice from his own party for the betterment of UPFA.
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:09 AM
My choice "Dr Silva"
Monday, 19 April 2010 05:29 AM
MR is strategic leader. He will let RW to have speeker from their side since MR dont want to loose any MP from their 2/3
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:24 AM
Thse two have not discussed about speaker. They must have discussed how to stop Fonseka attending parliament.
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:27 AM
An intelligent and conscientious Opposition is a part of loyalty to country.
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:40 AM
Yes I would also suggest our Dr Mervin Silva either as the speaker or Prime minister.Pls president do it for us.
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:42 AM
Why? why not WJM again? MR doesnt trust him i reckon, that he might double cross him too as he did to Ranil. It must be something else there is nothing to discuss this post with Ranil at all.
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:47 AM
Why with Ranil ? Ranil should thin of resigning from the opposition leaders post asap.
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:52 AM
Siribiris, It's too early for SF to become speaker cause he needs to know the parliamentary procedures and the systems as to how things work inside the parliament.
Monday, 19 April 2010 06:56 AM
Hats off to MR & RW. CONSULTATION, CONSENSUS & COMPROMISE, is THE BEST WAY FORWARD FOR A NEW POLITICAL CULTURE. Forget about SF & JVP if they do not fall in line.
Monday, 19 April 2010 07:01 AM
Going by past experience, whenever the UNP offered a candidate for the Speaker's post (Anura Bandaranaike and WJM Lokubandara), that Speaker immediately sided with the government and finally ended up jumping from the party. This is a sure way for the UNP to lose another MP. Good Luck anyway.
Monday, 19 April 2010 07:03 AM
Hudson Samarasinghe is the man. Give him half a chance
Monday, 19 April 2010 07:21 AM
A truly positive and encouraging approach on the part of the President. GREAT to behold two top leaders engaged in statesmanship to reach consensus on an issue of national significance!
