UNP Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe has invited the Democratic People’s Front (DPF) led by Mano Ganesan for talks to resolve the ongoing dispute between both parties after the DPF launched a scathing attack against the opposition for omitting Ganesan from the national list slot.
According to DPF Leader Mano Ganesan, Wickramasigha is expected to meet DPF members Dr. Kumara Guruparan and Praba Ganesan today to discuss ways to sort out issues between both the parties.
The DPF, after separating from the UNF alliance, on Sunday slammed Wickramasingha and a few other party members alleging they were behind the decision not to give former MP Mano Ganesan a national list slot in parliament.
The DPF says that that the decision to not give Ganesan a seat in Parliament was the ‘dirty work’ of the ‘Gang of 5’ of the UNP consisting of UNP Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe, Karu Jayasooriya, Tissa Attanayake, Ravi Karunayake and Malik Samarawickrama.
The DPF further warned the UNP of serious consequences for omitting Mano Ganesan stating that they had touched the wrong end of the live wire and the opposition would soon realize their mistake in Colombo’s North, Central, East, West and Borella and Dehiwela electorates. “It is only the beginning of end of the Gang of 5,” the DPF had warned. Mano tried to be too smart & wanted to contest from Kandy. Now why is he crying. Is he jealous that his brother got Mano's usual place in Colombo.

Ethnic parties came into being when the so called national parties ignored the minority aspirations and sentiments.

I feel that srilanka must be free of politics from parties based on race.. All main national parties like the SLFP, UNP, JVP etc, must have minority members coming from their parties. It will not be a bad idea to ban all parties based on race. This is the way forward for a brighter sri lanka.

Totally agree. I for one am completely against politics based on religion and ethnicity and always shunned such parties. What we need are strong national political parties with national agendas.

Gee he is now threatening UNP. In the last year of LTTE life when he was talking at LTTE meetings he threatend the government. What does he think he is! The all powerful National Leader ? He was rejected by his own people. If he is a genuine politician he should sit back and wait for the next election without seeking back door entries to the parliament.

Why worry Mano? call Mahinda and tell your idea. There are enough room. If they don't have, he can create something for you.
Monday, 26 April 2010 12:48 PM
then why didn't he get enough votes from his supporters?

Some of the people who comment seem not having full knowledge about the siutuation but just writing for a sake of writing,
One says Mano should negotiate with his own man who got in on the national list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some say party's decision is not to fill a loosing candidate if so how come SLMC loosing candidate from Kalutara got a national list slot????
Most of the Tamils shocked and saden that Mano did not get a seat from UNP national list.He deserve to get a seat.He is the real Tamil leader out side north and east.
Treditionally tamils (outside north & east) vote for UNP.If not minority vote UNP's position would have been much worst than what it is.This is the reality whether people like it or not they should accept this reality.Ranil should gracefully step down and give the party to people who can turn around the party and earn support and respect from general public
Monday, 26 April 2010 11:24 AM
UNP vote base is scattered.
UNP need a leader who lives in Sri Lanka, not in Singapore.
RW shall be the next PM of S' Pore.
Cos It's a disciplined, educated, multy ethnic, multy cultured country.
We select our leader from our heart not from our brain.

Ranil should not make this mistake of giving up party decision for this loser. first UNP should know their strength. ppl who are not capable of getting a single seat if contested alone, now trying to bargain for 02 seats
Monday, 26 April 2010 10:54 AM
Mano should negotiate with his own man who got in, on the national list. More slots cannot be given to parties in the UNF as the number of national list nominees is very minimal.
Monday, 26 April 2010 10:51 AM
The party decision was not to field losers on the national list - Ranil stuck to his promise.
Monday, 26 April 2010 10:49 AM
I too agree with 'srilankan'. If major political parties include candidates representing all groups, and address their issues, all Sri Lankans will gather around major parties without dividing into small groups.
If we ignore the minority issues, without fulfilling the promises we make, these parties will flourish and auction their votes.

I think it is high time these so called Leaches in Politics are kicked out all together. One day we will see more parties than memebers in parliment. Strongly feel that it is time that the major political parties put forward members of the minority comunity in their respective areas without using these so called leaches this include all MUSLIM, TAMIL & SINGHALA. We need political parties not Cast or Religon based individuals.
Monday, 26 April 2010 10:39 AM
Ranil cannot be pardoned for getting Mano not including in the National List. MANO is a representative of both Indian/Ceylon Tamils representative.
Monday, 26 April 2010 10:03 AM
well said.. this is called forward thinking..
Monday, 26 April 2010 09:50 AM
Rani Stop it, Let Mano go his way. He is a lost soul. You can have better Tamil Politicians in your side. Mano is a waste of time.
Monday, 26 April 2010 09:37 AM
well said.,,, Both ranil and mahinda should think about these types of politicians...
Monday, 26 April 2010 09:32 AM
A National List slot is equivalent to 250,000 votes. Did Ganeshan get this island wise? NO. His candidates did not get even half that. Just because his candidates polled a certain amount of votes does not mean that they are all DPF votes . Tamil UNPers would have voted for his candidates .
Monday, 26 April 2010 09:28 AM
If the voters rejected totally. is the national there so they can creep in to parlimant. We thought that it is was for intelectuals who did not want to contest in elections.
Monday, 26 April 2010 09:17 AM
he cannot win on his own from colombo.he will even lose the only seat he has from colombo
Monday, 26 April 2010 09:06 AM
Mr. Mano what is your vote base? Now every body has to wait for another 5-6years until then UNP is not bothered.
Monday, 26 April 2010 09:00 AM
He could not win in Kandy but he threatens to destroy the UNP ? ......Ranil should not invite this fellow to talk . Late Mr. Gamini Diss. son , who is just 30 years old got more preferential than this fellow !
Monday, 26 April 2010 08:59 AM
ok
Monday, 26 April 2010 08:56 AM
Thanks Mano teach the Loser not to mess with the minority vote!!!
