United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickramasingha is expected to make a decision on the national list slot of Democratic National Front (DNF) Leader Mano Ganesan on Monday after a meeting was held to discuss the issue between the both the parties.

During the meeting which was also attended by SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem, Wickramasingha promised Ganesan, that he would convey his decision on May 10 after the DNF split from the Alliance over Wickramasingha’s failure to appoint Ganesan on the national list slot.

“I cannot make any comments on what was discussed at the meeting. I can only state that Wickramasingha has promised me that he will come out with his response on the national list dispute on May 10,” Ganesan told Daily Mirror online.

Meanwhile the UNP Working Committee will meet today evening to discuss restructuring the party. (Daily Mirror online)

It is OK to give a seat to DNF if they have collected sufficient votes collectively that deserve a place in the parliment. But not to MG as he is rejected by the people. It should go to someone in the party if justified. Regarding Rukmen, why have this type of vegitables in the party at all?

Ranil should stick to his policies, otherwise whatever remaining credibility he has would fade away. The National List is not meant for losers, but purely for peple with exceptional talents, who can contribite positively to our motherland.

True colors of UNP leadership will be shown with their final decision on Mano.

Ranil should not vacillate on this issue. Mano was quite rightly not offered a slot on the National List in the first instance because he had been roundly rejected by the electorate. If the UNP boss goes back on that decision, that will certainly cast a harsh reflection on him.

Ranil should keep Mano - because Mano belongs with the "discards"!

    Wednesday, 05 May 2010 07:25 AM

Ranil you got to leave!!! Thats final

How many UNP list parliamentarians crossed over during the last Parliament? MG will get the National List and then cross over thus saving the President a NL position for someone else. CHANDRA NSW

This is your problem Ranil. You are not with the people and you cannot feel the pulse of the people. You are hanging on to this small issue for a such a long period of time. M G could not get people's mandate and you are just going behind him and you cannot see people around you are walking away.

I am getting sick and tired of the childish antics of the UNP Ex-Co.

Mano lost in Colombo. He must have had high hope of winning in Kandy so much so he put his brother to contest in Colombo. So either ask the brother to resign his post to him. Nothing can be done now about his nomination on the national list. If Dr Tissa V could not be nominated on the UPFA list - who is Mano.

Hopefully the concluding episode on this soap opera! Alarmingly static.

    Wednesday, 05 May 2010 05:40 AM

Must not accomodate anyone rejected by the people. The peoples' verdict should be honoured.

    Wednesday, 05 May 2010 05:27 AM

What sanity are you talking about.
MG lost in Kandy and he should not be allowed to come in to the Parliament.
This shows how desperate he is to be MP. (May be he cannot afford to lose cheap but cosy food at the parliament canteen. If you want to work to your community there are many ways. You don't have to be MP.
This RW is worrying about a loser but does not care about Rukman who is a genuine UNPyer.

A real leader should not vaccilate and should have the strength to stick to a decision once made, especially in a case like this where a defeated candidate is trying to force himself into the Parliament.

    Wednesday, 05 May 2010 05:16 AM

Is Mr Ganesan is trying hard to be a 'peoples representative' when the people have rejected him, or is he gunning for benefits and perks of a parliamentarian - the answer is obvious.

Mr Ganesan must understand that he has no vote base, whatever he got in previous elections was UNP votes.

    Wednesday, 05 May 2010 05:10 AM

Mr.Ganeshan will join the government, no matter what. It is a matter of time.

    Wednesday, 05 May 2010 05:07 AM

Mr Ranil be strong....dont include election lost, dejected people in the national list...it will be a disrespect to professional people like harsha, who came from national list

    Wednesday, 05 May 2010 04:56 AM

Hope this time RW will be straight and say no.

    Wednesday, 05 May 2010 04:55 AM

Let's hope that sanity and prudence will prevail.
