Random checks on face-covered motorcyclists

A random check on motorists wearing face-covered helmets would be carried out throughout the day, Police said.

Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said this decision was taken in the wake of several day-time robberies by armed gangsters wearing face-covered helmets.

“The helmets have still not been banned from use but we are taking precautions,” he said. “They will be frisked for weapons and questioned.”

SSP Rohana asked the people to be patient and put up with the new measure being adopted for their safety.

Several of the bank robberies that were carried out this year were carried out by gangsters wearing face-covered helmets.

“Several of the armed robbers, despite wearing face-covered helmets, were caught and produced in court. Some of them were identified with the help of CCTV cameras,” he said. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

Full face helmets are to give a maximum protection to a motorcyclist.But regarding bank andother shops roberries. There must be a law that no one is allowed to enter with any helmets or even sunglasses. That is the way in other countries face these kindbof problems. And salute to the security guard who act promptly. There mUst be picture signs and also wrtten placards out side the building. Security guards shoud not open doors if the person not obey and
Must be ready to such attack if person still force to enter.

This is not going to work. Random posting of STF/Commandos at vulnerable locations will keep the perpetrators guessing. If they are posted in civvies they must not get involved in routine Police duties. They must be as discreet as possible. Message will get around. via DM iPad app

Good move, yet I wonder how are the authorities or CCTV camera's going to pinpoint the culprits when they carry out random checks on the road. If a motorcyclist has a mug face is going to be taken in for match making?

Even a 100 cc bike can go at 100 km/h. It is the speed that is killing and not the cc size of a mbike.
