Video: Punish Weliweriya perpetrators to secure Army’s goodwill

UNP parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera said those who were responsible for the Weliweriya killings must be punished so as to secure the goodwill of the security forces that was lost because of the Weliweriya controversy.“Goodwill of the security forces was lost due to the actions of some officials of the security forces that are partial to the government. If we are to secure its goodwill, those responsible for the incident must be punished. If this was a responsible and democratic government, those responsible for the incident would have been arrested and court martialed. And those who ordered them to do so also must resign”, Mr. Samaraweera said.
He said an impartial investigation would not be carried out into the Weliweriya and Grandpass incidents as the names of those who gave orders would come to light.
Mr. Samaraweera said even though there was enough evidence about those who gave leadership in the Grandpass incident, they have not been asked to give even a statement.(Ajith Siriwardana & Yohan Perera)
