The treatment given to the Sri Lankan President in Britain deeply wounds the psyche and morale of the people of the country who are still struggling under economic shackles after the end of the war, UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya said in a statement today.

He added that a slight to the head of the country was a slight to the Sri Lankan state. (KB/YP)

The British public should be concerned that their liberal society is hijacked by a community with a racist agenda of setting up a monoethnic state

    Wimal_Modawansa Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:40 PM

The treatment given to the Sri Lankan minoroties in Sri Lanka deeply wounds the psyche and morale of the Tamil speaking community of the whole world even after the end of the war,

    citizen1 Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:53 PM

Agree. We had a great opportunity to change ths around at the end of the war. But somebody went and blew it!

True Son of SL Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:58 PM

We hate the type of politics Rajapakse is upto. But what ever it is he went their as the leader of our country. Iltreating him is an insult to our entire nation.

    kumar Saturday, 04 December 2010 01:03 PM

What about the publisher of Wikileaks?! There is an arrest warrant on him! Unlike Tissanayagem, there will be no one to help him!!

    Lion Saturday, 04 December 2010 01:41 PM

What treatment you are talking about, President in his victory speech clearly said that there are no minorities in Sri Lanka. True, he couldn't give life to dead terrorists.

    Yehiya-Doha Saturday, 04 December 2010 01:53 PM

Find the root cause. Just don’t blame the opposition. This is totally weakness of your team.

    Ray Saturday, 04 December 2010 02:24 PM

Why kill the messenger??? for asking appropriate question?? Is it unpatriotic?

    sam Saturday, 04 December 2010 03:02 PM

This patriotism business is going a bit too far. Surely MR knew the risks in going there. If he wanted to convey a message, he could have arranged an official visit.

    shanaka Saturday, 04 December 2010 05:03 PM

My point is if we put up al-quida flags in a western country will they allow us? if LTTE is a banned organization as al-Quida why the protestors allowed to carry LTTE flags and slogans!

the west is totaly hipocrict, and Please for the sake of Sri Lanka, the south political leaders need to rally together! otherwise its good as just giving the Pro-LTTE what they want!!!

Waran Vaithilingam Saturday, 04 December 2010 07:54 PM

    This just a beginning.

    raju Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:31 PM

This is the beginning of the end...!

    raj Saturday, 04 December 2010 09:40 PM

patriotism is not something you can force on people. it should come naturally. Most countries are not seemst to make big deal of patriotism because they don't force patriotism on people.

podi putha Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:08 PM

The LTTE assassins killed two Sri Lankan oxford union past presidents. This must have weighed heavily in their decision to cancel The President's invitation. The diaspora lost this one!

sanath ekanayake Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:23 PM

let's have protest at UK parliament , with waving Bil larden flags. then see what will happen. This will be really headache to UK. because of their double standard stand towards terrorism

    pseelawathie Sunday, 05 December 2010 12:19 AM

Take the opportunity and join the Communist China and Russia.

    Hetti Sunday, 05 December 2010 02:11 AM

We appreciate your saying Mr.Jayasooriya.In this matter we should forget about the political benefits,& should stand together sake of the country !

    Tyrone Sunday, 05 December 2010 03:30 AM

It was a private visit organised by the gvt!!! Did they think carefully the war4 crime situation?

    parak Sunday, 05 December 2010 04:00 AM

Doesn,t it a wake up call for expediting the political reforms that have been on (under) the table for neary eight decades. It is quite easy to criticize/blame others acts but extremely difficult to understand them.

    apsara Sunday, 05 December 2010 04:36 AM

Welcome to Canada Mr. President. We are with you.

    Apsara

    Lion Sunday, 05 December 2010 05:32 AM

We will finish it in Time.

    Chandanafe Sunday, 05 December 2010 02:57 PM

    Only in your dreams !!

    HaleemJ Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:28 AM

If U accept MR as the leader of my country by heart , it should have hurt your feelings . I did so to me .

Hiran Shanaka Saturday, 04 December 2010 10:14 AM

The treatment for MR in the UK must be condemned by all the diplomatic community! I think it is high time for our foreign services to go through the whole saga and make a strategic review. What if when Brack Obama visits UK, some Al Qaeda shouted slogans and call for an investigation on thousands that had been killed in Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc? It is logical to draw parallels here, as LTTE at the end of the day is a terrorist outfit. The steps must be taken by the foreign ministry to nip these unwarranted protests by the bud, before they turn into a diplomatic catastrophe of the century, as no Sri Lanka politician might be able to visit London! Do not misunderstand this event with freedom of speech, as one can’t have exercised the freedom speech, by violating the same of another. All political parties must stand as one, and condemn this event!!!

    indike Saturday, 04 December 2010 10:25 AM

LTTE killed civilians for 30 years. The west and NGO´s were silent then. LTTE was wiped off. Then they started talking about the "last phases of war" and about crimes committed by "both sides". Of course, now they can accuse "both sides" because their favorite side is no more there to be punished.

How can we make arrests? they are all dead, and a few are living in US and Europe.

    Midda Saturday, 04 December 2010 10:31 AM

well said Mr.Karu but think is now who is shame by this?????

    sema Saturday, 04 December 2010 10:34 AM

mr Karu . Are you going to cross over to government again?

    Mel Saturday, 04 December 2010 10:46 AM

It's really good to see that everyone is together on this issue regardless of political differences. This was a humiliation of our country, not just a single person.

John Redman Saturday, 04 December 2010 10:50 AM

I am a british citizen living in Sri lanka, I hate my country for allowing LTTE terrorists to fly their flag of terror in the faces of the world media. It is a disgrace that these scum are allowed to live there and bite the hand that feeds them, they are trouble makers who do not want peace anywhere.
I feel safer walking the streets of Sri Lanka than I ever did in the UK. I wonder if i will be able to wave a flag with Bin Laden on it at Heathrow airport. How long will it be before all the worlds terrorists living in the UK get together and form one big terror party funded by the government benifits the UK give them. UK people want these LTTE out of UK and now the war is over they are safe to return but they wont because being a terrorist in the UK is a good business.

Abdul Razeen Saturday, 04 December 2010 10:51 AM

Thank you Mr. Jayasuriya for putting aside petty political differences in such a vital issue. It doesn't matter if they did this to our president, prime minister or opposition leader, they are all representatives of our country and mistreating them is the same as mistreating our country.

Janaki Soza Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:00 AM

Do not forget, this is only a private visit, according to the government propaganda, prior to the departure.

Johann Gunasekara Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:14 AM

Soon Wikileaks will expose the LTTE link with Oxford uni

    Khan Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:16 AM

    Mr Redman,

Where are u now in UK or Sri Lanka.

In UK they don't ban the websites and everything that says anything against the govt. Please note that even many Singalish who were suppressed and subject to revenge for being in the opposite parties were assisting the protests in UK. This is better without barking at the moon to see what sin have we done.

    Kanishka Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:20 AM

I'm not partial to any party in SL. But such commendable comments coming from a member of the opposition gives me hope that our country can speak in one voice. Thank you again Mr. Jayasuriya!!!!

    nagu Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:25 AM

People like you who does not have any patriotism, should be blamed.....

    demon Saturday, 04 December 2010 10:12 AM

mr president i would like to say that ..."they just started"
it's a biggest shame for you...as well for SL kan citizens....whom to blame for this mr president?

    Pawlpakse Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:35 AM

Well, somebody should be blamed for bringing discredit to the country. SF is in Jail as he was supposed to have brought discredit to the country.

local boy Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:40 AM

i do not know why still ppls care about loosing brits? in first place why MR want to go to those places? SL should develop first, then everyone will come here

    Piyal Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:46 AM

    Khan,
What on earth are you rambling on about?

    Arasi Saturday, 04 December 2010 11:55 AM

Mr Red-man, you have written very good role play.

Common Man Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:02 PM

We have our political differences, but, can't accept the U.K incident. Outside the country M.R is our president. When it comes to Country we speak in one voice and loud. That’s our policy. U.K. is an enemy of Sri Lanka, nothing to hide. They are behind our leader’s blood, trying to trap in every possible way. Not only M.R , S.F. and the others are in the same boat. LET’S FACE IT AS ONE UNIT, Just like we wiped out LTTE for good.

    podda Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:06 PM

@Pawlpakse: But it is well known that Fonseka supporters were lobbying with terrorists to protest against the president.

    CHAMINDA Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:09 PM

Another evidence that shows world is breaking in to pieces. MR should not be blame for going there. I wonder what on earth these sri lankan intelligent officers doing?.

    pbjkolla Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:11 PM

    unpatriotic people

    neomal Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:12 PM

Well said Mr. Jayasuriya. This is how a decent politician should talk. The others should from you.

    pbjkolla Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:13 PM

Private visit or not it was the President of a country, our country...

It is people who think like you who let our country down most...

    HApu Saturday, 04 December 2010 12:20 PM

    I'm with you
