Bentara-Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Vice Chairman Ranjith Wickramasinghe charged that Bentara Elpitiya SLFP organiser Geetha Kumarasinghe had hit him with a mug of coffee during a party meeting held recently.

He said Ms. Kumarasinghe scolded him bitterly and hit him with the mug when he pointed out that the Bentara-Elpitiya area had been looked down upon due to her bad conduct.

‘An opposition member had raised a question that sending letters to Grama Niladharis asking them to join the ‘Rata Nagana Nil Rella’ programme was a violation of the Establishment Code. I also spoke to her about this and said our area had been cornered due to some incidents that she was involved in recently. Then she scolded me and hit me with the mug of coffee she was drinking,” Mr. Wickramasinghe said

When Ms. Kumarasinghe was asked about this, she denied the claim that she had thrown the mug at him.

‘He spoke against the president and the government from the beginning of the meeting. I could not tolerate such criticism. When I opposed he scolded me in obscene language. I did not want to do the same and I spilt some coffee but I did not mean to hit him. If I hit him he could have complained to the police”, Ms. Kumarasinghe said.(Ajith Siriwardana)
