A police constable and a police sergeant were interdicted over the death of a suspect who stabbed himself with a knife while in the custody of the Piliyandala police.
Police said that the suspect possessed the knife which was hidden inside his trouser. He was taken to the Kalubowila Hospital but succumbed to his injuries after admission.
Police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said that the police had taken four statements from the eyewitnesses and had to take disciplinary action against the two officers.
The suspect was arrested by a special team attached to the police over a robbery while he was hiding in the Dampe area.
The victim was identified as Rukshan Danushka aged 30. The Piliyandala police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (SD)
