The protest started by the private bus workers operating in the Puttlam-Colombo road continues for the third day. Several incidents have been reported where a group of unidentified persons were pelting stones at the Vavuniya bound buses from Colombo. Under the circumstances, the transport in the area has come to a standstill.

The officials of the Chilaw and Puttalam depots have said that they had deployed more buses to avoid the inconvenience faced by the commuters due to the protest. (Jude Samantha)

I was one of the regular passenger who was effected this unruly people. I used to travel my destination in Vanni via Vavuniya. My usual travel time to Vauniya in night, between 6-61/2 Hours from Colombo. But this early morning it took more than 8 Hrs to Vavuniya & poor driver from Jaaffna do not want to take the people in unknown roads. Our bus was escorted ( apparently he followed by ) with another luxury bus to Jaffna. Our route was Kochikade/ Dankotuwa / Pannala / Anuradhapura & A9.

This is too much. Local security should monitor this situation more closely other than local election duties !

Why even waste time with these Private bus companies. They break rules all the time.
