A protest was held outside the Jaffna University over the deferral of the UNHRC report on the probe into allegations of war crimes during the latter stages of the armed conflict.

The University Students’Union which organised the protest said in a statement that justice had not been meted out to the Tamil people even after six years had passed since the war ended.

It said that though the UNHRC had voted in favour of several resolutions on Sri Lanka the previous Government had ignored them.

The Students’ Union said in such a scenario it was questionable as to why the UNHRC itself had agreed to defer the release of the report due in March by six months to September.

It said it had no faith in the new MaithripalaSirisena-led Government, which vowed to hold a local investigation into allegations of war crimes.

I thought you guys at the Jaffna University are more intelligent than the rest of us. You need to be intelligent and patient, instead of jeopardizing the matters. You guys focus on your studies now.
