This is reason the tamils are looking at us in a stranger manner. The government should take very serious action on this matter.

It’s good to see a Srilankan paper reporting incidents in Jaffna.

This is an incident between two hospital employers. Nothing to do with the government or other communities. Why do people try take political advantage out of each and every incident

These things can happen not only to Tamils in the north...but in the south as well. its not an ethnic matter.......some people are trying to create a big problem on these things.....

Hi Bandara,
Do you beleive this midwife was murdered for being a tamil. No....So do not try to link any incident to racism.
jolene Monday, 12 July 2010 06:54 AM
unfortunately the doctor is a sinhalese!
Mushi Monday, 12 July 2010 07:25 AM
A sri lankan has killed another sri lankan in Sri Lanka. That is it..So, Sri Lanka law will rule in this issue. Now, Sri lankan doctor is in custody of sri lankan police..
tharan Monday, 12 July 2010 07:33 AM
I too agree that this can happen to anyone.
But do not say that this is not a big problem.
If you want to feel the seriousness of the problem, just imagine your sister or daughter in the victim's place. You will definitely understand it.
Wara Monday, 12 July 2010 08:17 AM
Yes, it's true. But it's not ethnic issue. Bcause some people try to merge this with race. That's a issue.
RajasH Monday, 12 July 2010 08:35 AM
That is where the racism element comes. The police and authorities must pursue the culprit regardless of whether he is Sinhalese or Tamil or Muslim or Burger.

There is no doubt that incidents like this happen everywhere. The first comment on this article raises an important concern, its not whether the murder wac committed by a sinhalese or not, but what matters is how justice is going to be dealt with in this case. If for some reason the there is bias in dealing justice to the victim, then it can be viewed as an ethinic bias. If one wants to prove that justice prevails without bias towards cast or ethinicity, policies should be implented without bias, so that everyone will come to trust the system.
Romesh Monday, 12 July 2010 10:26 AM
I completely agree machan. If any Tamil dies or is murdered, people immediately look at the sinhalese or the government. This could have been a personal fued, a professional feud or just plain insanity. What has the government to do with this?

The 'post mortem report' must be submitted to the court early for the court to decide. Let the 'rule of law' prevail throughout the land!
