My good friend Samantha Sooriyabandara died in exile in Australia last year.He joined the 1 CLI in his youth and then the commando regiment, he spent his whole adult life fighting for his country. He was the CO of the so called national line between Muhammalai and Palai before he was sent to Washington as the military attache by then commander of tha army Sarath Fonseca. We met rarely as I lived abroad, but everytime we met we had very frank discussions about the war and the general situation of the country.Following the arrest of SF Smantha decided to leave the country as the Rajapaksa regime was hounding the officers they thought were close to SF. a month before he died I had a skype chat with Samantha and in that he told me that one day he will go back to Srilanka but until Rajapaksas were there it is not a possibility as Rajapaksas suspected every officer that was appreciated by the General Fonseka.Sadly a month later he died of a heart attack. If he was alive he would have been with the happy officers above mentioned , it is our duty not to forget a true solder who totaly gave his adult life to the Army and fight against the LTTE.

I too had contact with him from the time he was posted to Washington DC. Sadly, Mother Lanka lost another War Hero. One day the former Secretary of Defense will pay for all these sins.

OMG Friday, 20 February 2015 02:26 PM
Not so fast. First all details about their theft should be published as much as possible. If they are arrested early they might become heros.
willowsd Saturday, 14 February 2015 04:06 PM
Thank you very much Sir, do not worry any more about the LTTE or any terrorism in our country as long as these officers are with you.
s kalpage Saturday, 14 February 2015 12:00 PM
one good thing. To save the government from sympathizers of former regime the responsible positions in all ministries and departments should be given to persons of good service record. It is said that some heads have been retired having done the work properly. Those who submitted to political pressure still head some ministries. Be wary !
Yaseem.Jayah Saturday, 14 February 2015 12:57 PM
I salute you Sir, for the move that you have reinstate those officers who were sent on compulsory retirement, after the 2010 presidential elections,
brainmaster Saturday, 14 February 2015 01:07 PM
Now justice has been done to the Army. What about the Police ? That courageous policeman in the Dodangoda highway case ? Even his private car was burnt by punishing goons !
Tilak Saturday, 14 February 2015 01:38 PM
They should have been reinstated earlier. If there were no charges against them how can they be removed from their posts.
Waco Saturday, 14 February 2015 01:48 PM
Mr.President you have done the justice to these Officers. We thank you profusely.

Sam Samarasinghe Saturday, 14 February 2015 11:43 AM
Very good move.
BuffaloaCitizen Saturday, 14 February 2015 04:27 PM
Actually their reinstatement should not be through the President. It should have been through the Army itself. If they had been retired due to political pressure, an internal army investigation should show that and persons concerned in this act need to be dealt according to discipline. The name of the politician or secretary should be named and publicized with events. This is the only way we can overcome this kind of bumming.
Amith Saturday, 14 February 2015 04:41 PM
Reinstate of official is good work.
DumDum Saturday, 14 February 2015 05:11 PM

Ex-president hates loyal servants, he likes only thugs.
Desapriya Saturday, 14 February 2015 06:16 PM
These officers who gallently fought in the war were dismissed by past Defense Secretary and then Army Commander Jagath Jayasooriya. Now the Defense Secretary is dismissed and Jagath Jayasooriya is still there as the tri-forces commander. He should be dismissed and as there is no war no need to have a tri- forces commander.
