It was mostly due to the ignorance of the State officials that the politicians erred, the Governess of the Southern Province Kumari Balasooriya said in a sudden state of enlightenment yesterday.

“We can observe the loopholes of good governance and the government officials, who are unaware of these things, should be responsible for them. Perhaps, they make mistakes, according to the requests made by the politicians,” she said.

She also said that good governance had to be established very soon in Sri Lanka where there was peace and development.

Addressing a group of journalists during a news briefing held on Saturday at the Governor’s Official Residence she said however that all were not prone to do errors.

“But, the government is in an embarrassing situation due to a few people who made such errors,” she said.

According to the governess, the politicians could be corrected if the officials could point out their mistakes when the politicians directed the officials to engage in a malpractice.

She said that it was a grave problem because there were no such official to create awareness among the politicians in this regard.

“There are problems due to use of money in certain institutions as a result of the ignorance of the officials,” she said.

“Good governance has to be established as soon as possible. Otherwise, it will not be useful for adopting massive development strategies after making peace. There are such problems in many institutions,” she said. (Sajeewa Wijeweera)

Since Independence in 1948 most of SL politicians have done lots of mistakes and set bad examples (i.e corruption, nepotism etc..) that's why we remain beggars of IMF & richer countries until 2014 & beyond. The biggest problem is these greedy politicians are trying to own the country for family use.

Very soon this govt will be toppled by the goons of the govt itself. An out side force will not be required to do that.

The foundation of bad governance was laid by JRJ's constitution. Those who succeeded him wallowed in the selfish and destructive comforts that it offered. MR surpasses them in building on the same egregious foundation exposing the whole nation to the danger of collapsing.

If we had good politicians like Dr. N.M. Perera & Hon. Dudley S, we still see ex-politicos living ordinarily life just like any of us.

Don't blame the civil servants (the officials)--learn the job you were elected to do and then supervise them.
