Cop interdicted for assaulting journo

A police officer of the Panadura police traffic branch has been suspended while another has been sacked with immediate effect, after they allegedly assaulted ITN journalist Nirsohan Premathilka yesterday, Police Chief Mahinda Balasuriya said.

He added that both policemen have been arrested and taken into custody for further investigations and prosecution. (Sadun A. Jayasekara)

The journalist is from a government channel. This must be a stage managed act because sacking a policemen with such lightning speed without holding proper inquiry is unbelievable. How about metting out the same justice to journalists assaulted live in front of cameras.
