Police are looking for the person who recorded the video depicting a young girl slapping a youth at the Wariyapola bus stand for allegedly verbally harassing her.

Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said they were looking for the person who recorded the video to record his statement.

“We also want to look at the interpretation whether the girl has the right to assault a person after being subjected to verbal harassment. So we want to see how this case will be taken up at the Supreme Court,” he said.

“We arrested the girl after a complaint was lodged by the youth at the Wariyapola police. She was later released on bail by the Wariyapola Additional Magistrate. The case is to be taken up on September 23. (Supun Dias and Sanath Desmond)

The public have the right to demand decency. If someone is dressed in an indecent manner they should be prepared to face the consequences.

Maybe they have such personal in the force who have escaped the law.[/quote]
mr Sacre Blieu, what will it be if she cut his neck as well or whatever. What matters is - the principle. No one can take the law into their own hands! The fact that she may have been harrased would mitigate the crime but will not exculpate her.

This girls actions can not be simply related to the generally accepted responds just like slapping once etc. by a gentle lady as a result of verbal harassment by someone. It was a absolute carnage and the young man was subjected to a severe physical and mental illness.

Was that girl dressed in an indecent manner? Definitely not.

And the way a person dresses is their own business not of others

Even monks dressed in yellow act indecently so should they be treated similarly?

Why not arrest the boy and teach ALL vulgar youth out there not letting a girl to walk on a street safely without being sexually harassed? In the current status of affairs in the country where an independent judiciary is non-existent this is no surprise! Look what happened in Tangalle!

Whatever it is it is clear that the cops have gone crazy owing to the girl defending herself on her own a job the cops ought to have done in the first place. Hats off to the brave young lady even though she over did it. She's set an example to all other harassed young girls who find it most difficult to walk on the road these days safely.Take a bow Thilini!

Only for this reason, locals in Sri Lanka are reluctant to give evidence in any criminal activities. Unwanted problem. Why do people wanted to drag the snake and coil around their neck?
