United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera said today the Prime Minister should resign for allowing his ministry officials to misuse his post, signature and official seal to obtain Customs clearance for the largest-ever stock of heroin smuggled into this country.

“It is the Prime Minister who appoints his coordinating secretary so he must take the responsiblility for his actions. He cannot say he is unaware of this heroin smuggling racket because he told parliament a year ago that he knew of some politicians engaged in drug dealing. So he cannot say he is innocent or did not know anything about this. If he knew about drug dealing earlier he should have been more cautious about this,” Mr. Perera told a news conference. Name one minister who has taken responsibility for his actions? Everyone here is in charge but sadly no one is responsible.

In a country where the law says possession of even 1 mg of heroin is subjected to punishment by death, how could the law allow such a responsible man as the country's Prime Minister to go scot free without any punishment by making his coordinating secretary a scape goat. Is this is the Miracle of Asia that is being promised to us.

I will be really surprised If I see PM resign, There are no honorable politicians in SL!
At the end it is responsibility of the PM, and this is a national disgrace. Everybody is playing tottta baba. This why Sri Lanka need independent institutes to handle Police, Judiciary,

    Dharme Friday, 13 December 2013 12:30 PM

He is innocent. May be he has forgotten names of such politicians after the operation he underwent in US. That is natural no......

Janaki Kalansuriya Friday, 13 December 2013 12:32 PM

Good luck to you, UNP. This shallow person thinks he is patronizing the village Kopi Kade, judging by his very immature and irresponsible utterances. He is good with the uneducated. Even the retiring Farmers in the country are better than him to hold the post of PM.

Janaki Kalansuriya Friday, 13 December 2013 12:36 PM

This draws our attention to that bloke who was put behind bars for allegedly forging an actresses signature and being accessory to so drug smuggling, although he didn't have any in his possession. The PM should be sent to Bangkok Hilton!!!!

    Abdul Friday, 13 December 2013 12:39 PM

150 Kgs of Heroin, very serious, If the consignment was released it would have caused damages equivalent to dropping an atomic bomb in the country.Action should have been taken immediately agaist those involved to avoid similar attempt in future. All Sri Lankans should be grateful to Sihala Urumaya.

    Hoodwinked Friday, 13 December 2013 01:08 PM

The outcome of this could be that he would resign and his place in the parliament will be taken either by his wife or son with a ministerial post making way for either Chamal, Basil or Namal to be made Prime Minister. How convenient it would be for the Pres,
