The main opposition UNP said today the Government would not last for long andthe forthcoming provincial council elections would be the beginning of the end of the Government.
UNP media spokesman and Galle District MP Gayantha Karunathilake told a news conference that the Government was wasting the people’s money and burdening them with the high cost of living.
“With a huge burden on the people and the way the government is wasting public funds, it won’t be long before the Government is defeated. It will learn a bitter lesson at thePC elections where the first cannon will be fired,” he said.
Mr. Karunathilake outlined the problems faced by Sri Lankans and said the Government failed to solve them or provide sufficient relief to the suffering people. He said the UNP was confident that the people would make the right choice at the forthcoming elections. (Nishan Casseem)

Birds of a feather will flock together. An equally corrupt, criminalised and racist society will elect an equally criminal and racist government into power. Worse comes to worse, patriotism also can be thrown in with tamil threat, western agenda's etc towards sinhalese ignorance.

If the elections are free and fair no doubt UNP will be on the top of the list... crimes...rapists.. drugs... poverty.. education mess.. thuggery etc.. who will vote for government !
Nimal Monday, 09 July 2012 09:50 AM
For the last few years UNP used to say this .. this country is facing a grave situation .. so much of corruption and crimes... UNP need a good leader with a strong backbone.

My guess, Gayantha, is that this polls will make the cracks within the UNP more conspicuous. How can we expect good governance with a weak opposition, sir ?

You are assuming the final result will actually reflect the people will. If the so called "Computer Jilmart" is put into action then the final outcome will never be the peoples choice.
Yehiya Monday, 09 July 2012 07:39 AM
People urge to do that. First unite the party. Come to road, meet the people.Follow UNP what done in 1977 election. weakness is in your part.

Gayantha, we heard this 23 times before. We, general public have no idea of snatching power from bad present government and hand over it to even worse opposition.
