Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya today said the estimated funds for the Provincial Council elections to be held in September, would increase because of the increase in electricity tariff.

“We had estimated the election to cost Rs.1, 350 million but with the increased electricity tariff we will need about Rs. 1,500 million,” he said.

He said Rs. 850 million was allocated for the Northern Provincial Council elections earlier and said the amount had to be increased after the North-Western and Central Provincial Councils were also dissolved one year prematurely. (YP & LSP)

The E.C. should refuse to hold elections when PCs are prematurely dissolved for political reasons before their terms expire. How much have the country lost due to this from:
    a) Direct election costs
    b) Loss of working time
    c) Deaths and injuries from clashes between parties?
The real jungle mentality (not enven fourth world) of our 'leaders'.

What a heavy price to pay jus for the purpose of electing some thugs, hooligans, rapists and murderers to run a white elephant called Provincial Councils. We have given a new meaning for Democracy : By the idiots, of the crooks and for the undesirables.

Sri Lanka's external debt Rs. 2,741,960 Million. This is what we owe to foreign countries. The trade deficit is 825.40 USD Million in April of 2013. Before long, we have to sell SL piece by piece.
