The Cabinet today decided to extend the parliamentary complex by constructing another building at a cost of Rs.750 million in the adjoining land. (KB)
Nimal Thursday, 04 November 2010 05:31 AM
Can't they relocate it at Hambantota and make it the worlds biggest parliament? I don't see a need for it to be in Colombo nor any useful decisions happen inside it, except it hampers the lives of common people where ever the parliament is having sessions.

WHY DON'T YOU BUILD SOME HOSPITALS AND SCHOOLS WITH THAT MONEY?

ajith Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:12 AM
This is a colossal waste of money.
instead, improve roads and bridges in Srilanka.

Who is the Minister in charge of this project.
He is eying for some ulterior motive.
This project is not befitting the common mass.
The President should interfere immediately.
Where are the loud mouths of JVP

Why not close the present one and take it to Hambantota. At least we will be able to ply on Colombo roads without any hazzle from their security vehicles.

Yes I do, at least the Galary should be expanded, so the idiots in this country can go and see who they have elected.
And specially another section should be added to the parliament to keep the mad dogs away from the meetings.
Finally another section to bring the public who are forced to listen to all bad words during debates should be isolated from the session so we can protect the public from roudies.

I understand that according to Mahinda Chinthana it is one of the plans to prune down the cabinet. When such a planning is being embarked upon, why a further expansion of parliamentary complex is required now? Also, Sri Lanka being a small island maintaining a large number of MPs, cabinet ministers, deputies and besides maintaining provincial councils and members, etc is utter waste of public funds.

I believe it has something to do with horoscope!!... anyways we can expect the jumbo government to become double jumbo now as we will have more space in the complex... lets be optimistic and see it as job opportunities for the politicians!.. just if you are looking for a career change enroll right now... no better paying job in this country which doesnt expect you to deliver results..!!

nihal Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:54 AM
After about 02 decades MPs have been grown up in size so the present space is not sfficiant for them to go around

i think not.
i think what we really need in the parliament are smart people who give a damn about the country, irrespective of race.
What we DON'T need are idiots who waste parliamentary time on deciding whether they need a bigger place in which to be idiots.

Yeah! obviously when you wipe out the opposition you need more seats for the government representatives and it is better if you can accommodate the "Chinthana Think Tank" and all the cronies also in the parliamentary complex and name it "One Family ". All the best and good luck.

Current parliment complex got enough space and we can run a huge stage show in the complex utilizing the space...I think MR wants a mini VEGAS in the new complex to play CASINO games with his fellow members, He always think different to show some difference,.

YES, yes, we do need an expansion, taking into consideration that all family members will sit in one wing, without being mingled with caste, race and other vermins who occupy the parliament and mostly essentially, do not forget to construct a huge car park arena for the cars that bring these fat idiots to the parliament. oh SL where are we heading! God Save US and we need it NOW!

Existing parliament complex is largely enough for the legislature.what we badly need is the projects that help poors to find livelihoods.Governent have to inject funds into the projects that directly help farmers, stuents , labours etc.

For what? Are they expecting more MPs and Cabinet Ministers? Why not use that money to provide houses for people living in huts, dig wells for those who don't have drinking water nearby, buy desks and chairs for some schools in villages, buy badly needed hospital equipments?

Rs.750 million could have done a lot of things which would have benefited the public. The present parliament is big and good enough.

This Rs. 750 Million can be used to expand land usable for cultivation and people may have at least one proper meal a day in this country. Expanding parliamentary complex is a way to insult China who gifted this complex.
