Gampha District MP Upeksha Swarnamali was appointed Monitoring Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Ms. Swarnameli told Daily Mirror online that she requested the President for this appointment becasuse she wanted to work for the ministry.
“Following my request the President appointed me as monitoring MP my duties include the overseeing the work of the ministry which comes under the purview of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera,” she said.

Mr GREG Sir, inexperience is the qualification required to hold any post in this government. Any way she has to be very very careful with the minister.

I admire this government for assigning MPs for various responsibilities. We know most of such appointments does not carry any additional costs. Rather than being only a parliamentarian attending the house this is a better way to make use of peoples representatives. Even Indian government last week realized they needed a bigger cabinet to make it more efficient. In the older days members of high class formed the cabinet and the ordinary MPs were kept at bay only to raise hands at the voting time. In any future government they should assign seniors as ministers and the less experienced as Junior Ministers. We also can have the overseeing ministers to make sure the ministry is well run without getting involved in day to day management.

Why should we have ministers, deputy ministers and then on top of it monitoring ministers. What a waste of resources.
