The Oxford Union has cancelled a talk by Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa citing security concerns over planned protests by Tamil groups, the Telegraph reported on Wednesday.

"Due to security concerns surrounding Mr. Rajapaksa's visit which have recently been brought to our attention by the police, the Union has regretfully found that the talk is no longer practicable and has had to cancel his address," the Union said in a statement.

President Rajapaksa had been due to address the Oxford Union on Wednesday night.

When the KING of SL is against the Law of the Country and rule the country in way that he wants and send the one time Best Army Commander in the world to Jail and grab all the Corrupt UNP Mps to his Cabinet and release all of them by asking the AG to tell that the Orginal Documents are missing - will the world accept him as a Head of State? Lets protect our mother land by sending off this Family who is ruining our beloved Country.

    ajith Thursday, 02 December 2010 10:00 AM

Exactly, there is a vasts improvement in the communication system ,no need to travel any where you simply would have done the speech from the cushy comforts at temple trees or queens house.

    apsara Thursday, 02 December 2010 09:47 AM

I HAVE DISAPPOINTED TO SEE 500 LTTE SUPPORTERS WITH TIGER FLAGS WHEREAS NO GOSL SUPPORTERS.

OUR UK AMBASSADOR SHOULD HAVE ACTED MORE DILIGENTLY TO CURB THE SITUATION BY BRINGING FEW HUNDRED GOVT. SUPPORTERS IN ORDER TO SHOW HIS LOYALTY TO THE WORLD.

OUR FELLOWS ARE THINKING AFTER ANY SUCH ADVERSARIES. PATHETIC SITUATION.

    Oxford_Dropout Thursday, 02 December 2010 09:12 AM

why can't they close all the roads and allow our great leader to speak to the kindergarden stdents??????

Dr. wiki Thursday, 02 December 2010 05:04 AM

MR could have used satellite media to deliver the speech.

    Chandani Thursday, 02 December 2010 04:25 AM

We should protect our beloved leader from pro LTTE maniacs in these countries.

    Perera Thursday, 02 December 2010 02:46 AM

Cancel all Oxford Examinations for OL AL in Sri Lanka (Edxcel International) for three months until we verify their authenticity. GL not practical.

    resplendant Thursday, 02 December 2010 02:25 AM

Spineless backbone less Oxford. Pathetic how weak the former empire has become.

    iqi Thursday, 02 December 2010 02:20 AM

Any comments GL. Its a total mess up in your own house(Oxford)

    Noohu Wednesday, 01 December 2010 08:44 PM

TAMILS will never forget. Now they start the real war.

Wathte buwa Thursday, 02 December 2010 02:11 AM

Mr. President this is wasa nondiya. I think your personnel advice should be held responsible for misguiding

    Channa M Thursday, 02 December 2010 02:02 AM

Shame on you UK Govt. You fellows cannot give adequate security for a head of state. What a dam shame. You are still supporting terrorists globally

Shanil Kularatne Thursday, 02 December 2010 01:49 AM

The people who fed the Tigers are still at work!! Which means, we in Sri Lanka should be more vigilant. It is a shame that British officials succumbed to the pressure imposed by a group of terrorist- finacers. I request the Government to make sure that LTTE would not stage a come back. Opposition should not try to take political milage just because President's Oxford Union address was called off. It indicates that British authorities are supportive of LTTE sympathaisers. We have to maintain strict security measures to ensure that our hard fought freedom is not taken away - Lasitha

    Thomas Thursday, 02 December 2010 01:43 AM

    What a shame

    dulkith Thursday, 02 December 2010 01:22 AM

It's time for MR to release SF & meat the insane Tamil diaspora as one

    Silva Wednesday, 01 December 2010 11:29 PM

Its not only the tamils, the sinhalese were going to protest against the protesters.
The UK Police have seen the terrorist protesters during the end of the war and they don't want to take any chances with the asylum seekers.

NADARAJAH SETHURUPAN Wednesday, 01 December 2010 11:27 PM

    We all Tamils with MR.

    Dinithi Wednesday, 01 December 2010 10:46 PM

After all UK is not a safe place for even a president of a country. Pro LTTE parties seem to be really against MR as they know it is he who brought their downfall.

    Premarathna Wednesday, 01 December 2010 10:34 PM

Oxford its a great loss. Shame on you guys.Be brave.

    Upul Wednesday, 01 December 2010 09:49 PM

It shows inability of British security agencies. They cannot simply control a few thousand bear hand Tamils. How they are going to stop Al Qida bombs. LOL.

Humble Citizen Wednesday, 01 December 2010 09:23 PM

Who pays for the joy ride.

    Dr. W. Wickrama Wednesday, 01 December 2010 09:19 PM

Safe side. It is natural to have protest from pro-LTTE group for their lost infront of Mahinda's leadership. Now Oxford lost for pro-LTTE.

    anura Wednesday, 01 December 2010 09:05 PM

Oxford desrve that right to deny anyone who is contorversial
