Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara speaking to Daily Mirror online said that 1422 army deserters had surrendered during the amnesty period that was put in place yesterday.
“The deserters are now in camps and they will be sent to their respective regiments and disciplinary action will not be taken against them”, Brigadier Nanayakkara said adding that those who failed to surrender will be taken in to custody by the Military police. (S.D)
