Nawalapitiya UPFA Chief Organizer and Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has sent a letter of demand claiming Rs.50 million in damages from Nawalapitiya Chief UNP Organizer Sarath Gamini Hettiarachchi for allegedly citing baseless and malicious allegations for a re-poll in Nawalapitiya.
Aluthgamage complained that the reasons cited to cancel election results at 37 polling stations in
the Nawalapitiya electorate were defamatory and had brought disrepute to him and had caused damage to his political career.
The UPFA Chief Organizer stated that the allegations that two UNP polling agents, P.B. Indrani and T.V. Anula Priyanthi, were compelled to leave the polling station under threat and intimidation were false.
He has estimated that the damage caused to him is at Rs.50 million, and claimed that in failure to pay the said amount within 14 days of receipt of the letter of demand, legal action would be taken against the UNP organizer.
