Only god would know: Mohan Peiris

5 June 2012 10:28 am - 21     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

Former Attorney General Mohan Peiris giving evidence at the Homagama magistrates’ court said that he does not know the whereabouts of missing journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda and had made the statement to the effect that Ekanligoda was abroad due to intelligence reports stating so.

“I don’t know if he is alive or dead, only god would know if the information that  I recieved about him is true. I don’t think even the government knows where he lives,” Peiris told court.

When the lawyer for the Petitioner queried from the former AG as to if he remembers the person or department who gave him the information about Eknaligoda living overseas, Peris replied in the negative " I dont remember" he said.

Mohan Peiris was summoned to give evidence in the magisterial inquiry after he had made a statement saying that Ekanaligoda was alive and was residing out of the country while addressing a UN conference on disappeared persons. Peiris had given evidence for close to one and a half hours and was not cross examined by the plaintiffs. ( Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

    Is this an acceptable answer to any question? This was told at Court proceedings by a man who hold one of the top Legal postilion in the country. Isn't it an insult to a religious belief?.
    Political may talk about "Sakraya" in political platform.
    Same punishment to be given to him also as now they are trying to take who prayed to Gods for justice to the courts outside the courts as insulting the judiciary. This was inside the courts.

    He may have education but he has no class. You are born with class but education is subsequently acquired.

    An high ranking person who is supposed to uphold justice has been gullible enough to lie to the world body UN and has conveniently forgotten as to from where he got the information. Our war hero General SF languished in jail for saying what he heard. What punishment is there for the person who mislead the UN.
    Day in, day out a plethora of lies is being dished out to the public. Those in power have lost their creditability.
    Where do we go from here???????????

    Witness Wednesday, 06 June 2012 03:43 AM

    Sarath Fonseka was found guilty for stating that he had been told about the 'White Flag' incident. Mohan Peiris made no such assertion that 'intelligence sources' gave him the information; he CATEGORICALLY STATED the whereabouts of Eknaliyagoda.He has lied before an International Tribunal. No doubt he will be rewarded instead of being punished - like Fonseka!!

    Nihal Amarasekera Wednesday, 06 June 2012 08:52 AM
