'One-way' rehearsal cancelled

The rehearsal for the proposed one-way traffic plan which was scheduled to be held tomorrow (December 26) has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances, the police said.

The rehearsal was scheduled to be implemented on Sri Sangaraja Mawatha, Panchikawatte Road and Orabi Pasha Mawatha, Colombo.

One way roads should be made after careful consideration. Today there doesn't seem to be much benefit as there are bottle necks and unwanted diversions are made. For example those who travel to Slave island through flower road have to go to Liberty roundabout and then come back. They could easily go another 50 yards straight on and join Sir James Pieris Mawatha. Then there is the bottleneck at Kollupitiya Junction. The road could have been widened by a few feet to allow those coming from the Marine Drive to drive straight to Galle Face. Thirdly, Dickman's Road should be allowed to continue to Galle Rd without diversions.

There is a much more sensible solution. Pl increase the time allowed for the traffic light near Elpinistone proceeding towards borella from technical junction. Also do not allow traffic from tripoli side to enter directly to these lanes. Observe no overtaking rule thru double line mark for these lanes as well. Then we may not need this change at all.

The traffic on Maradana area is chaotic, anytime during the day. Some measures have to be taken to ease this congestion. The only solution lies in converting the exsisting two way, and make it uni-flow.
