Ambassador Tamara Kunanayakam has not yet accepted or rejected the offer by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to be transferred to Cuba, the Daily Mirror learns.
The MEA has requested an updated CV from Ms. Kunanayakam, and is currently awaiting her response.
“She has two options: to either accept or reject the offer made by the Ministry. It is up to her. But the Ministry will go ahead with the decisions already made; there will be no change to that,” an MEA source said.
In her letter dated May 1 addressed to External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, Ambassador Kunanayakam expressed displeasure at the move to transfer her to another “punishment station”, and outlined her reasons as to why she should continue to hold the post of Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Brussels Ravinatha Aryasinha will assume duties as Sri Lanka’s PR in Geneva on July 1.(Ayesha Zuhair)
See seems to be a supporter of the USA as she already was in Cuba. All foreigners are suspected there to be supporters of the US.

For someone to bring in Race as an issue in her letter and to challenge her boss. I think she not that mature at all in diplomacy. Does it matter where is the country if u want to represent your country, you represent as Sri Lankan not Sinhalese or Tamil.

WHY MEA IS INTERESTED IN HER CV NOW. TAMARA WAS NEVER A CAREER DIPLOMAT.. SHE WAS A POLITICAL APPOINTEE AND HAS NEVER LIVED IN SRI LANKA FOR FOUR DECADES.

Tamara is an asset to the country and with this type of short sighted actions of the government we are going to lose yet another efficient diplomat in our foreign service leaving only t he cronies in it. What a pity! Tamara is not only efficient and has no problem moving in to any UN organization any time without having to face all these harassment from all sorts of SL politicos!

I agree. She is a 'victim' of 'power politics' at the MEA where a former wharf clerk is "supervising" career diplomats.
